Germany is the main player in the European efforts to salvage the Greek economy, and arguably has a vested interest in the political goings on in Greece. In talking about the Greek local elections, the German speaking media note marginal results, a victory for SYRIZA in Athens, and a victory for Samaras in regional elections. The whole view from Germany is one of a neck-to-neck race in a balanced battle.

What seemed like a destabilizing result early last night after local elections exit polls came out, was turned around, leading the Greek stock market to a recovery, after last week's tumble down.

Thirty nine parties, seven coalitions, and an independent candidate are running in Greece for the upcoming European parliament elections.
