German media on Greek-Turkish crisis
German newspaper Tageszeitung refers to the new tension between Greece and Turkey following the MoU Turkey signed with Libya on the maritime border in the Mediterranean .
"Erdogan wants to break Turkey's isolation"
"Between Greece and Turkey, NATO allies, there is the threat of armed conflict," TAZ writes, citing statements in recent days. Following Turkey's actions to seek natural gas in the Cyprus EEZ, as TAZ observes, "Turkey has now taged a real coup and negotiated with the weak but internationally recognized government of Tripoli a common exclusive economic zone stretching across the Mediterranean.
It extends between Crete to the west, Cyprus to the east, the Turkish coast to the north and the Libyan coast to the southwest. Erdogan wants to break the isolation of Turkey in the Mediterranean and, in particular, to stop the Greek plans that claim the area between Cyprus and Crete. "

TAZ then observes how the whole issue is presented to Turkish and Greek media: “While in the Turkish public sphere this is an issue among many other things, in the Greek media it is the dominant issue. The memories go back to the 1980s, when in a dispute over territorial waters in the Aegean, the two countries were almost on the verge of an open war. "
TAZ also refers to Cyprus, which has announced that it will appeal to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, but noted that "perhaps the Hamburg International Court of Justice would be more competent."
