Italy returns 145 Ancient Greek coins and supports the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures
Italy has announced the return of 145 ancient Greek coins to Greece — coins originally discovered on the island of Kos between 1929 and 1930 and held at the Archaeological Museum of Rome. The commitment was made public by Italy's Culture Minister, Alessandro Giuli, during a meeting in Athens with his Greek counterpart, Lina Mendoni.
Culture Ministry: 47 ancient items returning to Greece
The culture and sports ministry, in an announcement on Thursday, welcomed the happy outcome of a lengthy investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in New York, which has resulted in the return of 47 stolen antiquities to Greece. During the case it was proved that, among the thousands of items from various cultures in a collection owned by Michael Steinhardt, one of the largest art collectors in the world, 180 were the products of antiquities trafficking and illegally exported from their countries of origin.
