"The Greek Minister of Finance seeks to repay the remaining credits of the IMF, proving that the time of crisis has finally passed," German newspaper Handelsblatt writes in a response from Athens entitled "Early repayment".

Greek Finance ministry has launched procedures for the early repayment of a chunk worth 3.6 billion euros of a loan received by the International Monetary Fund. The specific repayment will cover loans ending in 2021 and 2022, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Monday. It will be the second early repayment of IMF loans within a year, totaling 6.3 billion euros, from a total of around 8.0 billion euros received from the IMF, or around 80 pct.

Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras on Monday signed the letters to be sent to the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the Eurogroup, presenting Greece's plan for an early repayment of part of International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans (2.9 billion euros with a 5.13 pct interest, out of total loans amounting to 8.8 billion euros).
