The crown in domestic crime and especially in the so-called everyday crime is held by Roma gangs. As shown by the most recent Annual Report of the Greek Police on Organized Crime, thefts and burglaries in a percentage of more than 53% are committed by Roma gangs registering "turnovers" of millions. According to the data of the report among the gangs that were dismantled by the Authorities, approximately two out of three are made up of Greek citizens. However, 70% of them are Roma. The participation of Roma in crime remains disproportionately large in relation to their percentage in the general population, which obliges the Hellenic Police to develop special action plans to break the impasse in camps that are hotbeds of lawlessness. What is often observed is that Roma are arrested, released depending on their treatment by the Justice Department and return to their criminal activities. The conclusions of the report confirm the corresponding previous reports, since Roma consistently constitute the main group that commits crimes against property, thefts and burglaries.
