Greece will not consent to the next stage in Albania's EU accession talks if there is no progress on the matter of the elected mayor of Himare, Fredi Beleri, Greek diplomatic sources reiterated in Brussels on Tuesday.

France insists the EU should not, at this stage, greenlight the start of accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, a French diplomatic source said, speaking to the state-run North Macedonian News Agency “MIA”.

The president of New Democracy (ND), Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a staunch message to Albania on Serbian public television, warning that it jeopardised its EU accession if it failed to fully respect the rights of the Greek ethnic minority in Albania.
