Turkey’s Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu said 1,000 special police officers had been dispatched to the borders with Greece at Evros “to protect the refugees.

Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos on Wednesday visited the bridge at Feres and the army, police and fire brigade officers that are in the area to intercept migration flows, wishing them strength in their task.

Some 26,532 refugees and migrants have been denied entry to Greece via the Evros Greek-Turkish border since 06:00 am on Saturday and up until 06:00 pm on Tuesday, police reported on Tuesday evening.
Another 218 individuals were arrested for illegal entry during the same period.
