Greek owned shipping stronger than ever
Greece remains the leading shipping country in the world, holding 21% of the world fleet, in terms of tonnage (dwt), with 5,514 ships. The strength of the Greek merchant fleet showed signs of stability during the first month of the year.

The Total Capacity of the Greek merchant fleet, concerning ships of 100 GRT and above, showed a decrease of 1.9% in January 2022 compared to the corresponding capacity of January 2021.
A decrease of 4.7% was recorded during the corresponding comparison of the year 2021 to 2020.
Greek registry again included in US Coast Guard’s QualShip-21 program
The US Coast Guard has included Greece with another 22 countries in its QualShip-21 program, which will run from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
