Forecasts for another record-breaking season in Greece’s all-important tourism sector in 2023 have expectedly increased demand for employees but also revealed that roughly 80,000 positions – by conservative estimates – remain vacant.

A large number of hotels and other accommodation are still for sale in the country's destinations, despite the encouraging messages about the season and the optimism that exists in the country's tourism world. Sales rates may have slowed compared to previous years, but there are currently more than 2,500 hotels and other vacation rentals listed for sale on a major online home and business listing site.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday had a working meeting with the executive committee of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) to discuss the current tourism season. "I believe that we have already met one of our main targets, which is none other than the extension of the tourism period so that Greece is not a destination that our visitors prefer only during the summer months," he said.
