The public should limit their activities outside of homes and always carry snow chains in their cars on national highways, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chryssohoidis said on Thursday, following a meeting at Civil Protection headquarters on Kifissias Avenue ahead of heavy snow expected this weekend.

The extremely low temperatures and the heavy snowfall are still creating huge problems to the transport and the people's every day life in northern Greece.

Weather conditions will deteriorate as of Thursday evening with heavy snowfall expected even in lowland areas. Northerly winds will reach 8 to 9 in the Beaufort scale in the Aegean and the temperatures will post significant drop.
