The municipality of Kalambaka, a town nestling at the foot of the unique Meteora district and the cluster of monasteries perched on their peak - which together comprise a UNESCO World Heritage site - has officially applied to the interior ministry to change its name to Municipality of Meteora.

In a protest demonstration over the Central Archeological Council's (CAC) decision to forbid a face scaling meet on the Meteora rocks, two members of To Potami party climbed up the cliffs.

A global group of rock climbers had planned to case Meteora's massive rock structures, however the Greek Central Archaeological Council has rejected the activities.
