In a meeting today, the “movement of 58” studied socialist PASOK party leader (and Foreign minister) Evangelos Venizelos' proposals for a common Europarliamentary election ticket and they flatly rejected it. With polls showing the formerly mighty PASOK party crumbling in low single digits, a coalition with center-left personalities was perhaps the only option.

In a poll conducted by the University of Macedonia, asked which side of the political spectrum is in more need of a new party or coalition, 45% of respondents point to the center-left.

The proposal being floated by the “movement of 58” for a dissolution of PASOK and DIMAR and the establishment of a new center-left political institution with common candidates for the upcoming European elections has again hit stormy weather.
