 The European Commission welcomed NATO΄s decision to send a naval force to the Aegean in order to help crack down on illegal migrant trafficking, Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said on Thursday.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and visiting Italian parliament president Laura Boldrini both on Friday sent the message that the refugee crisis is a problem that concerns all 28 EU states, a European problem that should be addressed with common European policy and not to only or mostly burden Greece, Italy, Germany and Sweden.

There is no legal provision for removing Greece from the Schengen area but countries on Greece's border could close their borders, Alternate Migration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas warned in Parliament on Thursday.
