Greece is sending humanitarian aid to Turkey, through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, to manage the immediate consequences of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit the country in the early hours of February 6.

The Republic of Cyprus was recently informed by the European Civil Protection Mechanism that the offer of Cyprus to send a rescue team was accepted by Turkey.

"We still don't know if the 7.7 Richter earthquake that hit southern Turkey on Monday morning was the main one," professor and president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organisation of Greece, Efthymios Lekkas, told the Athens-Macedonian News Ahency (ANA).
