For the fourth consecutive day, firefighting forces continue to battle the fire that broke out on Sunday morning (September 19th) in Xylokastro, Corinthia, which has claimed the lives of two men and affected over 40,000 acres.

According to the Fire Department, there is no longer an active front, but scattered hotspots in rugged areas, which the forces are working to contain and prevent any flare-ups.

By Sunday afternoon, the atmosphere had already become suffocating in several areas of Attica, depending on wind direction. Ash and debris covered everything at a considerable distance from the fire front, and specialists advised people, particularly those with respiratory issues, to close their windows to protect themselves.

As shown by the European Union's Copernicus geospatial program, the satellite image reveals the dense smoke covering the affected area.
