Negative poverty record for Greece

According to ELSTAT, the national statistics agency, the percentage of Greeks living below the poverty line (meaning with incomes less than 60% of the average national disposable income) came to 34.6%, or 3,795,100 people.

Greece Ranks 4th Highest Poverty Level Among EU

According to a Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research report released today that includes ELSTAT figures, Greece is the 4th nation out of the 28 EU members, that held the largest amount of citizens that survive below or on the poverty line in 2013.

17.9% of Greeks, twice as many as the level before the crisis, does not have enough money to purchase food, something not observed, even in countries with much lower per capita GDP, like Brazil, or China.
