German Paper Pens Greek "Left wing savior" article
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
With the eloquent title "Left wing savior" the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung writes about the latest moves in the Greek political scene dealing with the election of the President of the Republic.
Where "Left wing savior" means Fotis Kouvelis whose name, more and more, in recent days is emerging as the name New Democracy and PASOK might suggest at the country's next President.
As the newspaper says in its report from Athens: "In the poker game for the presidency, Antonis Samaras and Evangelos Venizelos have Fotis Kouvelis as an ace up their sleeve.”
Along with the deputies of Kouvelis' DIMAR party do not of course have the requisite 180 votes needed to elect the President. They hope, however, that 20 independent MPs that do not look forward to early elections, not having a hope of re-election, will align themselves with this choice.
