Pope to meet Tsipras

SYRIZA leader, Alexis Tsipras is traveling to Italy tomorrow to meet the Pope. This “historical” meeting between Tsipras and Pope Francis is going to take place at the Pope's office in the Vatican at 10 am.
Tsipras will be the first leader of a left-wing party that will meet the head of the Roman-Catholic church ever.
The agenda of talks includes the issues of poverty, social exclusion, migration and environment.
The rather strong statements of the Pontiff on issues related to poverty, the call to stop the massacre in Gaza, ensure that the two men will have common views in a wide range of topics.
Walter Byers, representing the organization left transform! will also attend the meeting.
The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop of Athens Ieronimos have been officially informed of this meeting. Alexis Tsipras visited Mount Athos this summer as well, a move which demonstrates his will to establish a relation with the Church.
Pope Francis and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew are also scheduled to meet on November 30 in Constantinople at the celebration of the Patronal Feast of St. Andrew.
