Germans auction Amphipolis coins

German auction house Gorny & Mosch is putting up for auction, this October, ancient Greek coins, some from Amphipolis, whose origin is unclear.
As mentioned by Imerisia newspaper, the coins may have been part of the booty looted from Greece by Axis occupiers during the period 1941-1944.
The coins from Greece date to the period of Philip II to Alexander the Great, which can be traced to Amphipolis, along with other coins from Thrace, and the cities of Magna Graecia. The Items carry a beginning offer of between 500 and 2500 euros.
The list of the specific coins from Amphipolis was compiled from the auction catalogs by author and journalist Giorgos Lekakis in the Thracian site xronos.gr. The journalists believes this is an effort to capitalize on the publicity generated by the finds at Amphipolis.
The auction that will take place in Munich on 13 October 2014 will feature the following coins from the Amphipolis area, four tetradrachmes coined under Philip between 356-315, two tetradrachmes form Alexander's reign (ca 355, 323 BC), and a tetradrachme coined by Perseas (ca 179 BC).
