German Greek weapons co-production
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A major deal was signed between Hellenic Armament Systems (EAS) and German weapon systems group Rheinmetall, which includes 12 system categories (ammunition and ancillary equipment) at the ministry of defense in the presence of defense minister Dimitris Avramopoulos.
According to EAS CEO Sotiris Hristogiannakis, German technicians who inspected company facilities were fully satisfied and found them suitable for a full collaboration between the two parties, which opened up the possibilities for specifying the extent of collaboration.
The agreement foresees that in the near future EAS will produce 12,000 120mm shells for the main weapons of the Hellenic Army's Leopard-2A4/A6HEL main battle tanks, and will co-produce such ammunition for the German army as well. The company will also manufacture gun barrels that are destined for weapons to be exported by the German firm.
