Court Bans Mobiles from Student Exams
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The very possession of a mobile phone by students undergoing written examinations has been deemed by courts reason enough to grade the student with zero for that examination.
The verdict came in a case where a student that had his test paper graded with zero when he picked up to answer his mobile phone appealed to justice to have the decision lifted.
The court turned down his request noting that modern phones offer users the ability to use them for immediate communication, allowing them to cheat. This the court opined undermined the very institution of testing and meritocracy.
The student argued that he had only brought the phone on the last day of university entrance exams so he could meet friends afterwards.
