Greek sub and frigate to eastern Mediterranean

Turkish proclivities and the flagrant disregard for international law was at the focus of the meeting between the president of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis and government vice president and foreign minister Evangelos Venizelos.
Mr Venizelos noted his satisfaction after the meeting that according to him was conducted with total calmness on the basis of international law and the law of the sea, and spoke of a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem based on international legitimacy for the benefit of both communities.
Asked if Greece would send warships to the area, Mr Venizelos noted that within the framework of its international obligations Greece was asked to send a submarine and possibly a frigate to the UN mission supporting Lebanon.
Mr Venizelos also stressed that “there are no maritime differences,” commenting on a UN communique that mentioned this term. The minister also clarified that Turkey has not laid claim to Cyprus' EEZ and says it is acting on behalf of the so-called “Republic of Northern Cyprus,” which it alone recognizes.
The two officials also discussed arrangements for the Greek PM's visit to Cyprus next week.
