Financial crime squad SDOE has uncovered even more cases in inquiries conducted in August and September 2014, including a very prominent show biz couple.
According to SDOE the couple made a false declaration concerning a home they bought in the seaside suburb of Voula, having failed to declare 4 million euros used in the purchase.
The SDOE announcement stresses that fines and taxes due will burden both the purchaser and the seller. According to reports in the press, the show biz couple is a well known Greek pop singer and her husband who is a showbiz manager.
Other surprising cases include doctors in various areas of Greece that have failed to declare millions, one with more than 6 million euros hidden,, a former bank branch manager on Thasos that hid 1.5 million euros, A realtor in Preveza that claimed to have bought machinery for 160,000 but resold it for 1.3 million, while a number of realtors around the country also were adept at lying to the tax authorities. Another striking case involved an Albanian contractor, living on Paxoi, that failed to declare 1.5 million euros.
