Poll shows gap between ND and SYRIZA closing

A new opinion poll by Kapa Research shows that the gap between opposition SYRIZA (Radical Left Coalition) and ruling New Democracy (conservative) is closing.
Published in Sunday's To Vima newspaper, the survey puts support for SYRIZA at 25.5%, followed by 22.7% for New Democracy. This means that the polling deficit between the two parties has narrowed from 3.6% to 2.8% over the last month.
The poll also shows socialist PASOK in third on 6.7% and that the majority of Greeks would prefer snap elections to be avoided. According to Kapa Research, 57.8% of voters would like the current Parliament to elect a new president of the Republic.
Polarization is the name of the game in Greek politics when it comes to pre-election campaigns and the current one, which includes lobbying the parliament for -and against- the 180 votes needed for the election of a new President of the Republic in two weeks, is more fierce than ever.
If the polarization tactics of both the conservatives and the Radical Left work, the polling deficit between them might get even closer, resulting in the most uncertain election result of the past five years - should there actually be an early election in late January, or early February.
