Officers entered the two camps in Zephyri and Avliza, both in Acharnes, on Monday morning. Police said the raids were part of routine checks for criminal activity.
Police checked 230 persons and 50 vehicles, while 105 persons were held and 9 were arrested on various charges. Two persons were arrested on outsatnding warrants for cracking ATMs.
A similar operation in Roma caps at Peraia and Diavata, Thessaloniki saw 51 persons held, after 24 spot checks in houses. One person was arrested for tax evasion.
Greek police often conduct raids on Roma encampments, sometimes in cooperation with community leaders.
