Five interred at Amphipolis tomb

The dead interred at Amphipolis are five, according to the findings of analyses carried out by a multidisciplinary team of Thessaloniki and Thrace Universities. In particular it was found the burial of four, a woman over 60, two middle-aged men (35 to 45 years) and an infant, and as has emerged from the data one that was cremated.

As announced by the Ministry of Culture, the skeletal remains of the funerary monument represent about 550 bones, crushed and one intact skull in good condition, from which are missing bones that make up the face and an almost intact mandible.

There were no teeth except one carious root of the right second premolar, which was located in the mandible and displays advanced apical abscess.

Of the 550 bones counted, the 157, which emerged after careful examination, represent different scattered bone fragments and were recorded in a database. Moreover, animal bones were identified, some of which seem to belong to equine long bones. The animal bones will be studied by a special Zooarchaeology team.
