Solidarity for Greece demo in the Big Apple
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Their own message of support to the Greek government, in the midst of critical negotiations with the Eurogroup was sent on Wednesday afternoon by dozens of expatriates, and a host of US citizens from the heart of Manhattan.
With the slogan "Justice for the Greeks', attendees joined their voices outside the offices of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations to condemn the policy of austerity and continued memorandum programs.
The initiative to organize the protest was part of the Left Movement in New York, while there was a strong presence by delegations of SYRIZA and ANTARSYA of New York, with some expressing their optimism for a positive outcome of the negotiation.
There was also a massive participation of American activist organizations, as many members appeared to be well informed about the economic and political situation in Greece. Indeed some have not hesitated to refer to a "social genocide" by the Troika expressing their hope that the Greek resistance will inspire their countrymen to fight against the interests of Wall Street.
