Significant MoD meeting with USAF general
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Important issues of "mutual interest", as was noted in the notice of the Air Force Staff, were discussed at today's meeting of the Chief of Air Force Staff, Air Marshal (I) Christos Vaitsis, with the Commander of U.S. Transportation Command Gen. Paul J. Selva.
The exact agenda of the meeting was not made known. The fact that the US general, who was accompanied by US Ambassador in Athens David Pierce, was received by the Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos in his office, is indicative of the importance attached by the Greek side to the meeting. It is not usual for the Minister of National Defence to accept - even ceremonially - an American Lieutenant General, who is not even the head of the US Air Force. Except of course, if the object of the meeting is something really very important.
This is indicated and accentuated by the fact that the "ceremonial" MoD meeting with the US Lieutenant General and the USAmbassador was also attended by Chief of Staff Gen. Michael Kostarakos, the Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal (I) Christos Vaitsis, US Defense Attaché in Greece Captain Robert Palm USN, and the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the MoD Ambassador Eleftherios Karagiannis.
Finally, it is worth noting that according to absolutely reliable information, yesterday the US Ambassador hosted a "closed" dinner in honor of the US Marshal at his home, where, among other guests it was also attended by very senior officials of the MOD, who had prepared for him a file with the Turkish provocations in the Aegean.
