German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble commented on Thursday on the demarche presented by the Greek ambassador in Berlin to the German Foreign Ministry, expressing Athens’ displeasure over German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble’s critical statements against Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis.
Schaeuble told Reuters on Thursday that it was “nonsense” to suggest he had insulted Varoufakis.
“No, I haven’t insulted my Greek counterpart, that is nonsense,” the German Finmin said, when asked about the demarche.
The Greek ambassador in Berlin presented a demarche to the German Foreign ministry late on Tuesday in order to express Athens’ displeasure over German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble’s critical statements against Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis.
As we had reported, speaking to German reporters after a Eurogroup session on Monday, Schaeuble referred to Greece’s finance minister as “foolishly naive” in matters of communication.
