- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greek Olympic medal winners, and finalists, and other honored athletes were protesting in front of parliament today, expressing their opposition to the measure of suspension.
Holding a large banner that said "We glorified Greece. We are not beggars", and also "The motherland honored us and you don't have the right to take that honor back."
The athletes had been given public sector positions as a token of gratitude for their medals. Because they were placed in the positions and did not undergo examinations through the ASEP system they are faced with being placed with suspension and eventual dismissal.
The Olympians and other bemedaled athletes hired by the public according to law 2725/1999, are close to 1,000.
