Latvian Foreign Minister Thanks Greece for Support

Latvia will become the 18th Eurozone members, at the same time, as Greece will be taking over the EU presidency, while after 12 months Latvia will be undertaking the presidency post, as announced by meeting foreign ministers of Greece and Latvia Evangelos Venizelos and Edgars Rinkēvičs, after their meeting in Athens.
Evangelos Venizelos also referred to the prospects for further developing bilateral relations , especially in the investment and tourism sectors, noting that Latvia, also underwent a lot to reach the "threshold of the euro."
Referring to the Greek presidency, Mr. Venizelos noted that one priority will be support for the eastern – southern collaborative relations, while he also thanked Latvia for its significant contribution to Frontex for dealing with illegal immigration.
Mr. Rinkēvičs referred to his visit to Athens ten years ago, when Latvia was acceding to the EU, and Greece again had held the EU presidency, and thanked Greece for its support in joining the eurozone and also for its upcoming inclusion in the OECD.
The Latvian official also met with prime minister Antonis Samaras, with whom he discussed the crisis and its effects on both countries.
