Telegraph: SYRIZA preparing for bankruptcy a la Iceland
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The Left Platform of SYRIZA has prepared a plan for a Greek default following the model of Iceland that will include the nationalization of the banking system and quite a few other measures.
The information was conveyed by British journalist for the Telegraph, Ambrose Evans-Pritschard who relies on sources within the party. According to them, the measures that will be required will be control of funds and the creation of a credible central bank under a new economic system. As for the parallel currency, this may in theory seem functional and likely, however, this plan could not be followed as long as Greece is a member of the euro, so automatically it can mean the rapid adoption by Greece, of another currency, meaning a return to the drachma.
According to the journalist, these confidential memos have gone from hand to hand over the weekend and are supported by 30 MPs iclose to the Left Platform, and other hardcore components of SYRIZA. Also, he says, it is understood that the nationalist ANEL party favors hardening the attitude towards lenders - with everything that that entails.
