President Pavlopoulos receives Austrian Chancellor

President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Wednesday in a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann reassured that the vast majority of democratic forces in Greece is determined to ensure the progress of the country in the eurozone and in Europe.

Pavlopoulos said that the current economic crisis is becoming a social crisis and underlined that the spirit of Europe is not compatible with this kind of phenomena, adding that the common goal is to prevent this social crisis from becoming deeper.

On his part, the Chancellor referred to the many issues that are still open in the negotiations and added that there are still many requirements to be met. However, he stressed that if we respect each other and if common understanding exists, Europe will be stronger in the future. "And it will be stronger, if we support more those who need solidarity and support at this time," he said. "Our generation will do what it should do and it is the most important of all: to show that we will find a common way for Greece. In this common Europe with common values and relationships and contacts, respect must mark the beginning for many financial movements, needs and requirements."

Finally, Faymann noted that "Austria has always been a country of social balance. Greece is not only a place that we happily come for holidays. There are many common loves and friendships and historical links."
