Joint Greek - Israeli “Over The Horizon” Radar
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Israel and Greece will place a special radar on eastern Crete, according to a report by defencenet.gr.
Both countries aim to monitor the eastern Mediterranean, and essentially any hostile actions by foreign forces, i.e. the Turkish Navy and Air Force.
The decision of both National Defence Ministries was taken during the last visit to Israel of the Greek National Defence Minister, Mr. Panos Kammenos.
Over-the-horizon radar, or OTH (sometimes called beyond the horizon, or BTH), is a type of radar system with the ability to detect targets at very long ranges, typically hundreds to thousands of kilometres, beyond the radar horizon, which is the distance limit for ordinary radar.
