Migrants removed from Mytilene port
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Some 10,000 refugees and migrants were led from the area of the port of Mytilene in an open space near the beach "Tsamakia".
Men of the Coast Guard and the police forced the refugees and migrants to leave the area of the port and lead them into the open space of "Fykiotrypas", located a few hundred meters from the port. An attempt to count them will be made.
The mayor of Mytilene Spyros Galanos in statements to public ERT TV described the situation as "explosive". Earlier on Friday around 1,000 Afghans tried to occupy Blue Star 1 ferry shouting "Athens- Athens". The occupation was avoided when the catapult board closed, but at the same time hundreds of passengers who had embarked on it were trapped among the migrants.
