Serb and Croat hooligans clash in Athens airport

Wild clashes took place in the departure area at the "Eleftherios Venizelos" airport between Croatian and Serbian fans, who were in Greece during the last few days.

It all started last week, when the Greek police got information that Croat and Serb hooligans set a "death date" in Greece in view of the match between  Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb.

From Monday, the Police mounted an entire operation, which culminated on Tuesday with assaults on Panathinaikos and Olympiakos fan clubs, that are twinned with Croatians supporting Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star Serb supporters respectively.

The Police identified several more in hotels and proceeded to several arrests, finally leaving them free after the match. However, it was not the end. The Serbs ambushed the Croats, since they knew their time of departure from "Eleftherios Venizelos". They attacked with brass knuckles and knives, causing injuries to Croatian fans, some of which sustained serious injuries. According to the latest information six persons were hurt while one has sustained knife injuries. Police proceeded to 10 arrests of Serbs, ane are still searching around the rest of the airport.

At that time Martin Schulz was at "Eleftherios Venizelos" in order to leave the country, causing an anxious revision of security plans in order to avoid jeopardizing his safety.
