The island of Lefkada moved 36 cm to the south after the strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale that stroke the Ionian island on Tuesday according to Athens Geodynamics Institute data collected by the GPS station at Ponti on Lefkada. It is a big movement that surprised us, said the Institute's chief Athanassios Ganas.
"It makes sense after this quake" said seismologist-researcher Gerassimos Chouliaras. A similar movement happened and on Cephalonia after January 2014 earthquake, he added.
