Incidents, one dead, at FYROM border
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The situation in the buffer zone between Greece and FYROM, at the height of Idomeni remains tense.
A large group of immigrants headed for the crossing point, where a 22-year old Moroccan had been killed earlier, carrying the remains of the unfortunate man on an improvised stretcher, covered with black cloth. Immediate was the "answer" from the side of FYROM police that repelled the immigrants by limited use of chemicals.
Shortly after the death of the 22 year old Moroccan that was electrocuted, immigrants engaged in stone throwing against FYROM police and began to burn blankets and everything else they found before them making the atmosphere unbearable.
The presence of Greek police officers in the region is intense, trying to open passage towards the side of FYROM for Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan refugees in the area (ie. The three nationalities for which passage is allowed).
A large group of refugees-about 3000 people from the three nationalities mentiobed above - is waiting in a fenced field next to the camp, in the presence of a strong police force trying to defuse the situation.
Meanwhile, one person, injured in the incidents, was transferred to Polygyros Health Center.
