Farmers protest in Athens

Acharnon street is closed at this hour by farmers who have arrived from the island of Crete and have blocked the road in front of the Ministry of rural development and food building. They have further blocked their insurance fund building OGA entrance.
Farmers have been clashing with police all day at two of the city's main entrances: at Haidari, and at Koropi. At Koopi, farmers have closed off access to the airport with commuters attempting to walk with luggage a few miles to their flights.
Increased police presence in Athens today-especially near Omonia square, as late this afternoon more farmers will try to approach the area with their tractors. They have planned a protest on Syntagma Square at 5 pm.
Protesters are expected to meet at Omonoia square and walk towards the Parliament on Syntagma square.
Farmers are ready for their protest rally in Athens. Organizers expect a mass participation.
Farmers from Crete have already arrived in Athens bringing with them their protest banners. They set up tents in Syntagma Square in front of parliament.
