EC: 700 mln euros for humanitarian aid
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The European Commission’s plan forhumanitarian aid to Greece and “Balkan route” countries is expected to be approved today by the College of Commissioners.
The College of Commissioners is expected to approve the release of 700 million euros over the next three years. These funds will be diverted to NGOs rather than the Greek and any other state. Although the package is meant to be for use across the EU, it is expected that the vast majority will be used to alleviate problems in Greece.
Sources said that 300 million euros will be disbursed this year and 400 million over 2017 and 2018. The EU’s Council of Ministers and the European Parliament will have to give their approval before any money can be transferred.
