"Nocturnal Lightning" Lights Up Evros

Night exercise "Nocturnal Lightning 2013" has concluded absolutely successfully and impressive accuracy from live fire by all weapon systems utilized by Hellenic Army and Air Force.
The exercise, conducted on the maneuver field "Aetos" in Evros prefecture, was followed from the field by defense minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, and deputy defense minister Thanasis Davakis , along with the chief of the Hellenic Armed Forces General Staff General Michael Kostarakos and the chiefs of the armed forces.
During the final phase of the exercise there was combined fire operations from artillery, tanks, attack helicopters and fighter aircraft.
According to the scenario Greek armoured and mechanized units launched a counter attack overtaking their own defenses to destroy a bridgehead across the Evros river by enemy units. The counterattack included a vertical envelopment by heliborne special forces units supported by attack helicopters.
