Samaras Summons Stournaras After Troika Postpones Visit
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
"The troika will return to Athens, after the 9 December Eurogroup," said finance minister Yannis Stournaras after his meeting with the Prime Minister, precipitated by the troika's postponment of next week's visit.
Mr. Stournaras did note that troika technical crews will come to Athens next week in an effort to reach an agreement on the 4 prerequisite conditions for a billion euro tranche.
According to the minister, the two sides are close to a deal as only small differences remain.
As concerns the general agreement with the troika, Mr. Stournaras said that the aim is to achieve it by year's end, adding that there are 2-3 structural issues remaining, and less so the fiscal issue that are complicating things.
According to media reports the basic issues of friction with the troika is the reluctance to proceed with delinquent mortgage foreclosures.
Meanwhile main opposition SYRIZA noted in an announcement that "the new episode in this soap opera of negotiations with the troika is equally as boring in its expected outcome as all the rest."
