EU Commissioner Visits Athens Municipality Citizen Mutual Help Center

EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström visited the Athens municipality's Citizen's Mutual Help Center and was briefed on its operation by the mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis.
Mayor Kaminis noted the functions of the Center that in its 18 months of operation has been supporting 3,500 families, as well the municipality's social policies in supporting socially disadvantaged groups, homeless persons, and the city's schoolchildren.
Ms Malmström said she was impressed by the Center and expressed her satisfaction for the effectiveness of Athens municipality social support structures, noting her recognition of the sacrifices of the Greek people.
The commissioner also announced that Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn will be visiting Athens next week to discuss with the mayor of Athens issues pertaining to large program to support Athens through the utilization of all available European funding.
Mayor Kaminis noted the significance of European recognition for the Citizens Mutual Help Center's social contribution.
