The European Commission denied today reports saying that it has frozen EU funds to Greece for the program period 2014 - 2020, due to an alleged cartel investigation.
An EC spokesperson clarified that "we do not comment on leaked documents", adding that "as regards EU funds, we are ready to take the necessary action once the facts are clarified. We are not there yet".
The EC spokesperson stressed that "we are of course aware of this case", but it is "no news" as "this is first and foremost a question for the Greek authorities as already announced in the press release by the Hellenic Competition Commission of 17 May".
According to the EC spokesperson "the Commission has asked the Greek authorities for details and will look further into the case once we have this information".
