Greek Labour Minister George Katrougalos on Friday expressed his satisfaction over developments in the domestic labor market.
Speaking to AMNA, Katrougalos said that the results of a survey on labor market trends released on Thursday by ALBA, confirmed the data released by several national and international organizations which saw a gradual, but steady recovery in the labor market.
The Greek minister noted that in 2016, for the first time, the number of registered unemployed people fell below the one million mark, while the balance between hirings and dismissals in the January-May period was the best recorded since 2001.
"Obviously, there is no time for jubilation as long as unemployment remains at current levels, especially unemployment among young people," Katrougalos said, adding that "the unemployment rate has fallen from 27 pct to below 23 pct, a trend that could be sustained in the coming years".
"Now is the time to take advantage of an economic recovery, along with a return to European social model which lead to a restoring of collective bargaining, to safeguard not only growth but a fair growth, whose benefits could be shared to the Greek people and all workers," the Greek minister said.
