New Democracy stresses need for early elections
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The decision of the State Council that ruled the law on TV licences unconstitutional is a significant decision for the country, main opposition New Democracy (ND) said in a statement.
"The tender-parody was cancelled. The law on TV licences belongs to the past. The effort to embezzle the powers of the National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) failed," it said.
From the very beginning, New Democracy defended the constitutional order and struggled to prevent the government coup in the field of media, it added. "It is no time for celebrations. Together with the democratic society we feel vindicated because the constitutional legality was restored. The authoritarian and undemocratic approaches and interventions to justice did not pass," New Democracy noted."Early elections are now necessary more than ever."
