Central banker calls for compromise to close second program review

Bank of Greece Governor Yiannis Stournaras called on Wednesday for a compromise between the Greek government and the institutions to close the second program review as soon as possible.
Speaking at the Association of Pharmaceutical Companies, the central banker said confidence indexes started declining in the first months of 2017 adding that the swift completion of the review is a necessary precondition for economy recovery within the year.
“Uncertainty continues and explains the drop in confidence indexes in the first months of 2017. The swift completion of the second review through a compromise to mitigate the differences between the Greek government and the institutions and the restoration of a climate of confidence, are now the only way to restart the Greek economy,” he said.
