- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The “Cavafy” International Summer School is starting in 2017 aiming to serve as an annually held international scientific meeting. Organized by the Cavafy Archive and the Onassis Foundation it is the first of this kind exclusively dedicated to the poet Constantinos Cavafy and the impact of his work.
The first Summer School will be held from July 10th to July 17th 2017 in the historic building that houses the Onassis Foundation and Library, downtown Athens. Having “Cavafy in the world” as its central theme, this year’s Summer School intends to investigate the poet’s contribution in wider literary and cultural contexts, reviewing him as an outstanding personality of literature and reassessing the impact of his life on the Greek and international culture.
The themes of the first Summer School include: the relationship between Cavafy and movements such as symbolism, aestheticism, the movement of decadence and modernism, the dialogue between Cavafy and other literary personalities, Cavafy as a cultural myth and other related issues. The working language of the Cavafy Summer School is English.
