Greek wine exports to Canada up 66 pct since 2010

Greek wine exports to Canada is up 66 pct since 2010 and are up 7.5 pct so far this year, a trend expected to grow further, the Greek embassy's economic and trade affairs bureau said in a report, released on the occassion of a wine promotion program in Montreal, Toronto (Canada) and New York, Chicago and Houston (USA).

A total of 41 Greek wineries with at least three wine labels each, participated in the program in North America. Visitors tasted more than 120 Greek wines during events held in Montreal and Toronto, with most of these wines already available to the domestic market while others are seeking local representative and distributor.

John Szabo, the top Canadian Master Sommelier, a Greek-wine lover, offered a wine tasting seminar during events organized for professional visitors. The embassy report called for the need for coordination and intensifying of efforts to promote quality food and alcohol to Canada after the introduction of a new Canada-EU trade agreement (CETA). The embassy called for a specific and long-term action to promote Greek wine and food to Canada.
