The absurdity of the Greek state: Self admitted embezlers back in Greek state service
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A total of nineteen officials serving with social security organization EFKA will return to their posts, even though they have even admitted that they have been abusing public funds.
According to the "Free Press", this development is due to the fact that no disciplinary councils have been set up as provided by law 4387/2016.
Thus, this has had the effect of inability to prosecute a staff member and when the half-year of their forced leave without pay ends, they will return to their positions, which means they will not be punished and will not be penalized for the illegal actions they have committed.
However, it is particularly noteworthy that certain officials during their cross examinations held against them admitted their actions, but in the absence of a disciplinary body they can not be fired from their positions.
Finally, it seems that this case is becoming a headache for the Labor Ministry as it struggles to lay down a provision for the setting up of a Disciplinary Board while at the same time, the cases of another 250 employees are still pending .
